For the past eight years, I’ve been engaged in a project that is about as far from mathematics as one could imagine — coediting an English anthology of contemporary Turkish poetry with my good friend, Buğra Giritlioğlu, who is the founder of the queer publishing house obiçim yayınlar.
Our anthology, The Pulse of Contemporary Turkish, has just been published by Syracuse University Press and offers a glimpse into the vibrant world of Turkish poetry, featuring 172 poems by more than 60 poets, most of whom are still active today. From neo-lyrical verses to avant-garde experiments, our anthology reflects the rich tapestry of voices emerging from Turkey’s literary scene.
Buğra lives in Istanbul and has been engaged in a variety of publicity events with some of the poets in our anthology. Below are some pictures that Buğra sent me.
