Coding Up a Storm
Can it be only six months that I’ve been coding with Claude? In that short time, I’ve built 20+ apps, most of which you’ll find here. It began with a single app, Herding Sheep, that I described in a post back in March. I thought that my foray into A.I. coding would be brief, but once I got going, I found it impossible to stop.
Some of my Claude-assisted apps have been upgrades to models that I built with Web Sketchpad. The Color Calculator, Hidden Shapes, the Odometer, and Arranging Addends closely resemble their Web Sketchpad counterparts, but benefit from improved layouts, graphics, and interactions. Other apps branch out in new directions, offering microwords for students exploration. GeoSlice, for example, allows students to cut shapes apart, rearrange their pieces, and then glue them back together (a simple case: Slice a parallelogram into two pieces and then rearrange and join them to make a rectangle.) Meanwhile Fraction Slice focuses on cutting segments into equal lengths. Given halves and thirds tools for example, a student might be asked to slice a segment into sixths.
I think it’s time for me to hit the pause button on app creation and focus on the support materials that will make the apps truly useful. I would welcome any feedback you might have, especially if you have the opportunity to test one or more of my apps with students. And I’m also happy to offer my assistance with any apps that you might want to build. My experience with Claude coding has been brief, but the process of designing 20+ apps has taught me a lot about ways to take best advantage of the A.I.
